About
November 17, 1978 Television viewers returned to a galaxy far far away with the Star Wars Holiday Special. The story is  Chewbacca rushes to his home world of Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day with his family. Unknown to Chewbacca and Han Solo, they are walking into a trap. Imperial Forces occupy Chewie's home and wait for the rebels to return. Can Chewie's wife Mallotobuck, their son Lumpawarrump and Chewie's father Attichituk warn the rebels in time? Does anyone really care?
Featuring the Star Wars cast Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford (who must have had been held at gunpoint) along with special guests stars Art Carney, Bea Arthur, Harvey Corman and others including music from Jefferson Starship.
Having only aired once after very bad critical reviews, this piece of television history has fell into the black hole of bad T.V. with no official release. In fact if Lucas had his way this would no longer exist but what's the fun in that? Sure it's bad but did you see the Phantom Menace?
Now digitally enhanced for greater sound and picture quality from  a 3/4 tape TV station print, this is quite arguable the best quality available. Love it or hate it, this Blu-ray is destined to become the definitive version of the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL.
It is the 40th anniversary version and it differs in that it features an all new introduction and opening credits (with new "Holiday" theme song) that you will only find in this version. (the original opening is included as well, unaltered as an extra).
What also makes this stand out from all of the others besides the quality being so much better is the bonus special features. There are tons and many were created for this set exclusively.

- RESTORED PICTURE & SOUND with newly added introduction and opening credits

- RETROSPECTIVE WITH CAST INTERVIEWS INCL "George Lucas" at Comic-con making good on a promise.

- Darth Santa and Darth Santa Strikes Back

- Defending the SWHS featurette

- Darth Vader fills in for Santa

- The Star Wars Lego Christmas Specials

- Retro commercials from original broadcast. Note: the quality of those are VHS quality because that was the source material.

and so many others with 2 hidden Easter Eggs.
